Lithium Ion Drill Conversion


  Lately,  I noticed that the battery capacity of my power drill has been diminishing. It has been my habit of fully charging the nickel cadmium battery pack before I store it. And every time I put the drill in action, it starts and slows down drastically. I have to throw it back to the charger and have it fully charged before I used it again.


    So this time, with all the lithium ion batteries I collected from old laptops, I decided to replace the aging nicads with these high end lithium ions. I made sure that the batteries are all balanced charged to 4.25 volts and equal to their holding capacities which I measured to 2300 mAh averaged.


I was able to cut tin strips from the garbage biscuit container to connect the batteries together. I made sure I used the better power soldering iron. A 40 watts worked well, for quick solder transfer, dissipating the heat faster, avoiding too much heat to the batteries.


    With one drill that uses 18 volts, I decided to install 5 lithium ions in series, that is 18.75 working volts. The 24 volts drill, I managed to put 7 in series, that is 26.25 working volts. So far, both drills has been working flawlessly with lots of power, no overheating. Next plan is to build or buy the suitable chargers. On the power and weight, what a huge difference!

Refillable Portable Air Can

An empty pressurized can that has been lying around my garage and a handy air pump gave me another idea to make my dusting job a lot easier. 

And.. of course, a valve from discarded bicycle inner tube will definitely complete the project. Ensure to sandpaper, and clean the area to be soldered. Don't forget to remove the inner stem of the inner valve since the stem have some plastic parts. I recommend to using at least 50 watts soldering iron. 

I would stay safe with 60 psi of pressure.

I Modified My Angle Grinder Stand

It has been awhile since I last posted on this site and with all those times of my absence, I thought I was able to completely change my way of doing things, I was wrong, and one day I found myself again messing with stuffs. Here I am again, this time doing things a little bit user friendly.

I added a foot switch for a pleasant on/off switch.




A bit simple look!

 Installed a butterfly nut for quick releasing the grinder, much secured.

My Pedal Assist Bike

My neighbor's kid had an electric motorcycle that has been sitting idle in the backyard for awhile. The bike ended its life after the speed controller gave up. The cost of the part could not justify the  use of it. One thing is he already outgrown the toy. I decided to give it another life in a different form.

 Trying to salvage the main frame. 

 Added a small basket to hold the battery.

 I used two swivel casters, one caster I have to bore the middle part.

There you go as it is almost completed.
